Healthy Alternatives to Minimize Sugar Intake

Healthy Alternatives to Minimize Sugar Intake

As most of us know, refined sugar is extremely addictive and hidden in more places than we think. Just one bite leaves you craving more — putting you on a blood sugar roller coaster characterized by a quick high, followed by significantly depleted energy and brain fog, and sometimes a dose of guilt for not choosing a healthier alternative. Sound familiar?

In my opinion, overuse of regular white sugar, white flours, and pasta can be detrimental to our overall health because they get converted into sugar as soon as we eat them. Sugar is known to be pro-inflammatory and since so many of the chronic health conditions that plague our society today can be traced to inflammation, it may be wise to limit this ingredient.

As many of you may know, I try to limit the amount of sugar in my family’s diet for health reasons. However, that doesn’t mean that we don’t indulge in a sweet treat once in a while. I believe that moderation is the key to successfully transforming our health habits.
I do believe in minimizing refined white foods including sugar, flour, breads, pasta, etc. You’ll be doing yourself a favor, and with so many healthy alternatives, you won’t be missing anything except all the negative consequences!

Some simple swaps include:

White Flour >> Almond Flour, Coconut Flour, or Brown Rice Flour

White Sugar >> Coconut Sugar, Raw Honey, Stevia, Monk Fruit

White Pasta >> Zucchini noodles, Black Bean Pasta, Lentil Pasta

White Bread >> Ezekiel Bread, Lettuce Wraps

White Rice >> Cauliflower Rice, Brown Rice, Quinoa

Making these simple changes can make room for amazing improvements in your health in a very short amount of time.

Today, I challenge you to go through your kitchen and choose one food type that you would like to experiment with replacing with a healthier alternative. Make a list of new items you need to purchase during your next grocery store visit to make the swaps required.

What are you most excited about trying?!
